Electrical Relay Projects

Mr. McKeown's 10th grade electrical students, Brendan O'Conner of Franklin, Jordan Pina of Seekonk and Alex Trishin of Franklin are pictured showcasing several relay projects completed during shop week. A relay is a switch that is electrically operated with the switch being isolated from the power that causes the switch to operate.

Students study industry-relevant skills including how to operate, install, design and troubleshoot AC electric relay control circuits for various applications. The curriculum advances through topics like three-wire start/stop station control, motor jogging, motor sequence control, interpreting ladder diagrams and troubleshooting methods that can then be used to practice hands-on skills by actually connecting and operating a control relay in a circuit.
