Alumni All Star Megan Stinson! Megan is a 2014 Graduate of our Health Careers program. She went to Bridgewater state and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications. She is currently a Case Manager for special education students at Peach Creek Elementary School in Splendora, Texas. Megan’s favorite memory from high school would be playing basketball. It was a staple in her life, she actually hit the game winning three one night at Sacred Heart! Stand out moment! She went on and married her high school sweetheart and has two beautiful children, so that’s a tight tie for second place! Megan always wanted to work with children, and while in high school, she did a rotation in pediatrics at Milford hospital. She knew then she wanted to teach or do something that involves children. Her senior project was one that stood out as a major accomplishment. She chose the topic of Alzheimer’s disease and the effects it had on the patient and the family. Mrs. Jones, was her math teacher at the time and one of the judges of her project. She asked Megan if she could take the physical project home, which was a basket the family could utilize with a family member affected by Alzheimer’s.Megan says that Soccer and basketball also made a lasting impression on her.Graduating from medical careers has given her knowledge and skills she has utilized pretty close to daily since graduating high school. She goes on to say that even in education, the skills you learn in high school in academics and in your vocation will follow you everywhere. Megan’s advice to current students: Enjoy these days! One day you will look back and wish it didn’t go by so fast. (That song, I Go Back by Kenny Chesney - it hits you different when you’re old!) One last note from Megan: “I am so thankful for my time spent at TC! Ms. Caffrey has made a lasting impression on my life; she attended our wedding and met our children! Another memory was going to her office every morning… she was my person in high school, I am not sure I would have made it through without her!”

Jake is a 2018 Graduate of the Metal Fabrication Program!
His favorite memory from school was freshmen year trying out all the different shops in exploratory, it really opened his eyes to a lot of different careers and being able to try all of them out was very exciting for him.
Jake says his high school experience furthered his career path by giving him the basic skills needed in any work environment. It taught him how to overcome obstacles and learn to get better from them. Tri-County helped him not be afraid of trying new things and realize that everything is always a learning process and that the learning never ends.
One project that had a significant impact was his senior project. He made a woodburning stove and being able to make that and do that on his own showed him that he was capable of doing new things.
Jake says the skills and knowledge learned from his vocational education at Tri-County contributed to success in his current career by teaching him to never be okay with only finishing a task or project, knowing it was only half done or thinking it was okay to just doing the bare minimum. He is in charge of helping with a lot of different projects on improving the efficiency of how his company gets product out to their customers. He also keeps track of where product is, following all the protocols of handling each item. Showing that he can and does follow all the procedures in his job, as well as planning and preparing for future situations has helped him gain recognition from his current bosses and is opening more doors for him while working there. Tri-County gave him the tools and personal skills to know what it takes to be successful in anything he puts his mind too while being comfortable doing it to the best of his ability.
Jake’s advice to current high school students: Make the most of your time in school and just put in the hard work, give your best effort, especially if it is something you really don’t want to do. It will be rewarding in the end, you will prove to yourself that you are capable of more than you thought. Always make it a priority to grow a little more than the day before and the rest will follow.
