It's Faculty Friday! Featuring Health Careers Instructor Lynn Thibeault! What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far? I attended and graduated from a RI vocational school starting as a CNA into the field at 16 years old then attending college and graduating from URI. It was actually my SHOP teacher who came my inspiration and mentor, guiding me through college (studying nursing and CTE education). She is still one of my dearest friends! The journey has been great thus far! I am concluding my 13th year as a health Careers teacher (both from RI and TC) and have been a RN for 15 years previously working as a Level I Trauma/Burn nurse at RI Hospital/Miriam Hospital as a critical care float nurse. Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know? I love to craft and have my own craft, sewing room. I also was the first in my family to graduate college, although I initially failed out of nursing school the 1st time. I was also a Skills USA (formerly VICA) national medal winner in the Basic Health Care Competition. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching? A new recent hobby is reading historical fiction, romance books. I spend all my time with my 2 children and husband attending their extracurricular activities (gymnastics, dance, baseball, softball). I am usually the team mom taking pictures and planning fun events for them and their teammates. I also love ANYTHING SUMMER, the beach, swimming, and boating on the lake with my family. What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students? It's ok to FAIL. It is MOST IMPORTANT how you learn from your failures to push yourself to become better or overcome something challenging and rewarding. Don't let a failure define you.

Alumni All-Star: Shayna Erickson! Shayna is a 2010 graduate of the Cosmetology program. She chose not to pursue further education and instead went directly into the workforce. Today, she’s an independent stylist at Positive Images Hair Salon, operating as Shayna Nicole Hair. Shayna’s favorite high school memory? Cheerleading! She recalled how her team was made up of a great group of girls who simply had fun together. They were Mayflower League champions all four years she attended Tri-County, and in 2009, they even got to cheer at the MIAA Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. Shayna always knew she wanted to be a hairdresser. After graduating with her cosmetology license, she entered the field immediately. She became a full-time hairdresser at seventeen and started working independently by the age of 23 in 2015. Every day, she puts her cosmetology skills to use—skills she credits to her vocational education. In addition to the technical training, she learned time management and how to communicate with a wide variety of people, many from towns she hadn’t known before. That experience shaped her ability to build strong relationships with clients. Shayna’s advice to current students: “Have fun and enjoy it! The real world has a lot more freedom, but also a lot more responsibilities. Don’t get caught up in the drama or popularity. It doesn’t seem like it, but high school is the start of your future. Take the good and the bad so you can learn and grow.”

Proud is an understatement. Yesterday, our Carpentry students showed up with purpose and heart. Carpentry Instructors and students kicked things off with a meaningful conversation about Community Service—why it matters not just for others, but for ourselves. They connected the dots between our program, our school, and the greater community—and how each of us holds the power to make a positive impact. 💬✨ Then came action: 11 of our students joined the Annual Joe Halus Day of Caring, heading to Julia’s Garden at North Attleboro WWI Park for a day rooted in giving back. From clean-up efforts to kind conversations, their enthusiasm and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone there. 💚🌳 So proud. So inspired. This is what it’s all about. #DayOfCaring #CarpentryWithPurpose #CommunityMatters #JuliasGarden #WorkHardTodayCounts

It’s Faculty Friday – featuring Metal Fabrication Instructor Ken Young! What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far? Welding has been nothing short of a lifelong craft for me —one that has given me purpose, opportunities, and the chance to build something that lasts. I’ve spent years honing my skills, and I feel a deep responsibility to pass on what I’ve learned to the next generation. There's value in working with your hands, in creating something tangible, and in mastering a trade that demands patience and precision. Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know? Beyond the shop, life is all about balance and pushing limits. I briefly took Tae-Kwon-Do lessons from my wife, a third-degree black belt, and trust me—I learned quickly that discipline isn’t just for the welding booth. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching? When I’m not here, you’ll find me riding my Harleys or immersed in the energy of heavy metal and metal core concerts. These are the things that make me happy, and as the saying goes: The wolf doesn’t care about the opinion of the sheep. What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students? “Whatever path you take, I hope you pursue it with the same passion and commitment that welding has given me. Do what makes you happy, and forge your own way forward.”

✨ Alumni All-Star: Nick Bennett! ✨ Meet Nick Bennett, a proud Tri-County CIS program graduate from the Class of 2019! After earning his degree in Computer Science from the University of New Haven in 2023, he’s now pursuing his Master’s Degree while working as a Network Technician at the university. 🔹 Favorite Memory: Senior Projects Week—watching everyone showcase their hard work. Though nervous, Nick was thrilled to earn a near-perfect grade! 🔹 How it All Started: His love for Cisco Packet Tracer projects sparked an interest in real networking devices. Landing a Co-Op job at Plainville Public Schools’ IT Department solidified his passion and led him to join the University of New Haven Network Team—where he still works today! 🔹 Most Impactful Project: His "smart" mirror built with a Raspberry Pi. From system crashes to constructing the perfect frame and acquiring precision glass—it was his most challenging high school project. Thanks to the support of family and peers, he made it happen! 🔹 Advice to Students: "Don't waste it. You may hate waking up early, but it’s worth it. You never know where you’ll end up, so put in the effort, learn as much as possible, and have fun. Everything I learned at Tri-County made my first years of college a breeze—giving me more time to make friends and work on cool projects!" ⚡ Nick credits Tri-County for 90% of his initial networking knowledge, helping him build the foundation to grow his skills. 🎓 From student to IT pro—Nick’s journey is proof that hard work and passion pay off! #WorkHardTodayCounts

Dynamic Duo🌟: Jackson & Jordan Kullich! Some things just run in the family—like a love for carpentry. 🔨 When Jackson first explored different trades as a freshman, carpentry immediately stood out, becoming his top choice. Jordan shared the same passion, making it an easy decision to follow suit. Although they haven’t worked on projects side by side yet, their paths have still been intertwined. While juniors and seniors tackle outside projects, freshmen and sophomores focus on building their skills indoors. Even without shared projects, there’s something special about knowing your sibling is right there, learning alongside you in the same shop.⭐ For Jackson and Jordan, carpentry isn’t just about mastering the craft—it’s about growing within the trade together. Who knows? One day, they might tackle a project as a team, turning their shared passion into something truly remarkable!✨ #DynamicDuo #WorkHardTodayCounts
