🌟 Dynamic Duo: Jo & Sam Tofani 🌟
👶 Early Education Program 👶
Jo and Sam Tofani may not have worked on big projects together, but their connection in the Early Education program makes for a powerful partnership. 🤝
One of their favorite things about being in the same shop? The ability to bounce ideas off each other based on their experiences with the kids. 🎨🧩 Whether it's brainstorming new activities or simply sharing stories, their collaboration helps each of them grow as educators. 🍎✨
While their teamwork may not have been focused on big projects, they did help each other make the bulletin board look great—a small but impactful way to contribute to their classroom environment. 🏫🎨
And of course, they share one more common experience—people getting them mixed up with each other all the time! 😆
Jo & Sam prove that teamwork isn't just about big projects—it's about sharing ideas, supporting each other, and having fun along the way! 💡

It's Faculty Friday! Featuring English Teacher Peter Hefele!
What inspired you to become a teacher, and how has your journey been so far?
Well, my first job out of college was as an Information Specialist. It was a great job because I got to combine my computer skills with my writing skills. I would get technical issues that were escalated from our call center, and I would solve the problem and write instructions for the customer service representatives explaining how to resolve the issue. I was also responsible for my company’s internal web site for employees, as well as writing technical troubleshooting manuals and call center scripts. It was the last part of my job that really opened my eyes to “business ethics.” One of the things that I was responsible for doing was to write a set of scripts for customer service reps to use when a customer called to cancel their service. The flowchart I was expected to create essentially made it almost impossible for a customer to actually cancel their service; in fact, most people would end up signing up for a brand new four-year contract of our service when they thought they were simply getting a few months for free. It didn’t sit very well with me knowing that my writing skills were ultimately being used to deceive customers. When my company was purchased, the new company laid off the entire Massachusetts call center. That’s when I decided I wanted a career change, and I went back to college for a teaching licensure program. Teaching has been a much more rewarding experience. I enjoy making a positive contribution to people’s lives, and we have a wonderful Tri-County community.
Can you share a fun fact about yourself that your students might not know?
When I was an undergraduate, I was a member of the Poetry Club. I won a few poetry slams, and I performed at various open mic nights. I actually headlined at the Middle East once with one of my professors who is a published author.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of teaching?
I really love the outdoors. I enjoy going camping, hiking, kayaking, and fishing. I also have three dogs (two Shih-Tzus and a Yorkie) who take up a lot of my time, so entertaining my dogs is almost like a hobby unto itself. I also like to play video games in my spare time, as well as Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop games.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to your students?
I know there are lots of clichés I could share, but I’ll share a quote with you instead: “There is no money in poetry, but then there’s no poetry in money, either.” - Robert Graves. I know that Graves was talking about poetry, but I think that the real message here is to do what you love. If I could give my students one piece of advice, it would be to choose a career that you are passionate about rather than just looking at lists of starting salaries. Life is too short to spend each day doing something that makes you miserable. Don’t get me wrong, money makes one’s life easier, but a job that you love makes one’s life much more joyful.

💙 Spreading Joy, One Plush at a Time! 🧸✨
Students in our Early Education program chose a heartwarming community service project to support the young patients at Boston Children's Hospital. They lovingly stuffed plush animals and created adoption certificates, ensuring that each child receives a special, cuddly friend.
Erynne Sawyer, a 9th-grade student, shared, "The best feeling is spreading kindness. I hope that the children who receive these feel a sense of warmth and joy from the love that we put into the stuffed animals."
A small gesture with a big impact—help us celebrate these incredible students and their kindness! 💖👏
