Wendy Auger is a 1997 graduate of the Commercial Design Program, now known as Graphic Communications. She entered the workforce right after graduation at the Milford Daily News as a graphic artist, while continuing her education through night classes. She is now a technology and graphic design instructor, shaping the next generation of creatives and tech professionals at a private school in CT. Her favorite memories from high school are being in shop class. She liked how everyone was different, yet worked well together! After achieving success in her field, Wendy felt a strong desire to give back to children. In 2012, she returned to TC as a substitute teacher while freelancing, and working with the students there ultimately inspired her to pursue teaching as a full-time career. That experience made her realize how rewarding it could be to help students develop their graphic design skills and passions. One specific project from high school that had a significant impact on her was the senior project. It was a huge challenge, but the sense of accomplishment she felt when she finished was incredible, and it taught her the importance of perseverance and time management—skills that have definitely stayed with her throughout her career. The skills and knowledge she gained from her vocational education program were incredibly valuable in shaping her current career. She learned real-world skills that she could immediately apply in a professional setting, which gave her a strong foundation to build on. She absolutely loves TC! If it wasn’t for the education she received here, she honestly doesn’t know where she’d be today. She is forever grateful for the experiences and knowledge gained—it truly shaped who she is and set her on the path she is on now. Wendy’s advice to current high school students: “Really listen to your teachers—they’re usually right! I was fortunate to have some amazing teachers at TC who were not only supportive but also kind, and their guidance made a big difference in my journey. Take advantage of the support and wisdom they offer, because it can help shape your future in ways you might not fully realize at the time.”

⚖️Today, eight LPS seniors traveled to the Massachusetts Court of Appeals in Boston to attend the live arguments of a case they have been studying. 🏛️📚The case is being appealed on the question of whether a detective had the required reasonable suspicion (under the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments) to detain and search a man, who turned out to have been in possession of an unlicensed large capacity firearm. The students were prepared to understand the complicated legal analysis because they studied the Defendant’s and the Commonwealth’s case briefs along with the related historical cases that support each side’s arguments. The three Justices on the panel of the Court questioned the attorneys about the merits of their arguments. Following the hearing the LPS students had a private meeting with the Attorney who represented the state’s interest in the case. He shared some insight about the proceeding and took questions from the students about other criminal justice matters he has handled in his long career. For this field trip, students navigated MBTA commuter rails and subways to attend the Court hearing on time and then enjoyed lunch at Quincy Market. #WorkHardTodayCounts

Armen Eghian is a 2018 Graduate of the Computer Information Systems Program! He furthered his education at Bryant University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He is currently the Director of Market Intelligence at Green Cabbage. Armen’s favorite memory from high school was competing in CyberPatriot. He always enjoyed the hands-on aspects of Tri-County. The competition encouraged him to learn about cyber security through interacting with live technology. CIS showed him the wide range of ways technology can be used in people's everyday lives. By working with both software and hardware, Armen says he was shown the full spectrum of ways businesses interact with technology. With this basic understanding of technology, he felt comfortable pursuing a path in business knowing the two skills would be linked together. During college he took classes in both business and technology and found ways to fuse the two disciplines together. He senior project was the most impactful project in High School. He designed and implement his own compression algorithm. Although his job is not software design, going through this process allows him to better understand the pain points of software development when communicating with the development team in his everyday job. Even though he majored in Economics, his job revolves around technology. As the Director of Market Intelligence he is responsible for understanding the technology labor market. His background in technology allows him to fully understand the function of each unique role and the factors that go into developing these resources. He leads internal efforts in the development of new proprietary analysis tools. His background allows him to seamlessly communicate with technical teams to ensure all products have the expected functionality. His advice to current high school students: “Find opportunities to apply your education to small projects. It is difficult to find gaps in your own knowledge without using it in a practical situation. While a lesson may seem to make sense in a classroom, many lessons can be easily forgotten in a hands-on situation. No real world project is the same as any theoretical lesson.”
