Alumni All Star Kevin McCarthy – Metal Fabrication class of 1993! Kevin is an Auto Technician at Ira Acura, where he has been for 30 years! He says that Tri-County prepared him very well for success after school and he went right to work as an automotive technician. Kevin has so many great memories from Tri-County but what stands out are the lifelong friendships he made, especially with classmates from other towns. These connections have remained strong over the years, and he still keeps in touch with many of them to this day. For him, the bonds he formed at Tri-County are a lasting testament to the value of community and the lasting impact of those connections in shaping who he is today. After high school, he worked in the metal fabrication trade for about a year, building food kiosks for Burger King. The skills he learned at Tri-County, including MIG, TIG, and Heli Arc welding, were directly applied to this work. Additionally, his knowledge of blueprint reading, another skill he gained at Tri-County, was essential in helping him succeed in this field. During his junior year at Tri-County, Kevin worked toward his Arc Welding certification. It took him most of the year to pass the test, but finally succeeded on his third attempt. This experience taught him valuable lessons in perseverance, skill improvement, and the importance of not giving up. He attributes much of his success in his career as an automotive technician to the hands-on experience he gained at Tri-County. The practical skills and knowledge he developed through real-world applications have proven invaluable, helping him excel in his profession. Kevin's advice to students at Tri-County: "Learn, learn, learn, and take full advantage of the knowledge and skills that the teachers have to offer. Make the most of the opportunity to learn!”

✨It's been a busy week in Legal & Protective Services! Today the LPS sophomores attended the Norfolk County District Attorney's Peer Leadership Conference at Gillette Stadium. This was the culmination of a year-long series focused on youth leadership and development through community engagement, teamwork and responsibility. The LPS sophomores' participation was based on their class' own curriculum centered around careers that support the mental health needs of various populations through field trips, service projects, and guest speakers from law enforcement, public service, the judicial system, and non-profit agencies. Congratulations to 2 of our students - Lana Louro and Sadie Mozart for winning the Community Commitment Award! ✨

🌟Early Education sophomore, Kylie Vierkant, planned an Auto Repair Shop for the preschool dramatic play area.🏍️ "I used two guidelines from Early Education and Care to plan this activity: 1)Use a variety of tools and materials to build grasp-and-release skills, and 2)Observe and discuss the various kinds of work people do outside and inside their homes. Then I contacted Auto Tech to ask if they had any child-friendly, safe equipment we might be able to borrow. They were super helpful and cleaned the materials up for safe handling for the children. They guided us in understanding the materials and tools they provided. The children were very excited, and very surprised to see real world equipment!" #TeamWork #WorkHardTodayCounts

Alumni All-Star John Holmes! John graduated in 1993 from the Electrical Wiring Technology Shop! John says he values the education he received from Tri-County, as it gave him a foundation in his electrical career. He remembers his shop teachers telling him when you get out in the electrical field that's where you will gain most of your knowledge and skills, and they were correct! His Electrical Instructors were Mr. Bentley, Mr. Butler and Mr. Halstead. John says they were down to earth teachers and prepared students for the real world. Some of his fondest memories were working on the shop outside jobs, on the wrestling mat and on the soccer field. He says if he had to do it all again, he would definitely choose a vocational high school. After high school John continued his electrical education at Tri-County in the adult night school program, where he took journeyman electrical classes to prepare him for the electrical license exam. John went on to get his electrical license a few years later, and then received his master’s license! He is still working in the electrical field today as a maintenance electrician at a private school. John’s advice to a vocational student: “Be teachable, a leader and a problem solver.”
